safety first

Soy Candles by Phebes candles are designed to produce maximum effect when allowed to burn for at least two hours.  Scent throw will peak when melt pool reaches .50 to .75 inches.

Failure to follow instructions could result in a fire hazard or personal injury.  Never leave the burning candle unattended or within reach of children.  Keep the candle out of drafts.  Do not move the candle while it's lit.  After extinguishing, do not move candle until wax hardens and turns opaque.  Use caution when extinguishing.  Do not use water to extinguish.  Keep flame free of foreign objects.

why soy - or frequently asked questions

what makes soy wax so special?

Soy wax is a domestically produced, renewable product.  All of our wax is made from soy beans, grown on farms in America.  This helps keep jobs in this country as well as reduces our dependence on imported crude oil.

Most scented candles are made from paraffin which is a byproduct of gasoline production.

Soy Candles by Phebes candles burn cleaner and longer, and do not produce the soot stream that is common with paraffin candles.  Millions of soot particles will not be floating in your home's air, triggering allergies or ruining walls, drapes and lamp shades.  They also burn 40% longer than comparable sized paraffin candles!

what should I do if I spill some wax?

The wax from Soy Candles by Phebes cleans up easily with soap and water.  If you happen to spill our wax on drapes or carpets, simply use several layers of paper towels and a warm iron to re-melt and soak up the majority of the wax.  A damp, soapy cloth should take care of the residue.

why does my candle have a mushroom head?

"Mushrooming" occurs when carbon from the wick, scent oil and wax collect at the end of the wick.  It can be quite common in scented candles and can be mitigated by keeping the wick trimmed to between .50 and .75 inches.  Soy Candles by Phebes uses self trimming wicks so mushrooming occurs infrequently.

The lowdown on soy wax

How do they make wax from soy beans?

why is there wax left on the side of the container?

"Tunneling" is the industry term used to describe a candle that has not achieved a full "melt pool".  Tunneling typically occurs when the candle is placed in a drafty area, such as near an air conditioner vent or a high traffic area, or the candle has been extinguished before a full two hour burn.

If this happens with your Soy Candles by Phebes Candle, simply remove the candle from the drafty area and/or allow it to burn for a minimum of two hours before extinguishing.

can I recycle and reuse my container?

Please do!  In fact, we encourage it.  Soy Candles by Phebes is committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible.  We make it easy for you to be as well.

Soy Candles by Phebes candle containers are made from heavy glass and are intended to be reused.  You may safely burn our candles until they extinguish themselves.  This ensures there is no wax left in the bottom of the container and facilitates easy recycling.

The wick tab is attached to the bottom of the glass by an adhesive tab.  Soak the glass in warm soapy water for a few minutes and the adhesive and tab should come out easily.  Put the glass in your dishwasher and it will come out perfectly clean and reusable.

Soy Candles by Phebes' commitment to the environment also shows in other areas.  We use only natural fragrance oils, not synthetic.  Our candle boxes are made of recycled, unbleached Kraft board and we use found shipping boxes and recycled packaging material.
